The third Evaluation version of baseSim .NET has been released.

This release includes the 'Customer Services' demonstration Model, compiled in Visual Studio 2008 (.NET console) and Delphi 2007 (Win32 console). The latter Delphi Model is included for comparison purposes.

The .NET Assemblies 'baseSimControl_v3_VS2008.dll ' (Standard Module) and 'baseSimProfessional_v3_VS2008.dll' (Professional Module) have been further developed to support advanced baseSim functionality such as a completed Tbs3EventAction component and a completed set of Statistical Distributions.

The C# 'Customer Services' Model source code is also included.

The conversion of baseSim to .NET is ongoing and will be completed in the following stages...

  • Initial 'command line only' (console) release to support the 'Aircraft Assembly Line' demonstration Model. baseSim assembles will be required to be copied to the Model folder i.e. not installed into the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) - completed
  • Second (console) release, supporting the 'Automotive Supplier' demonstration Model - completed
  • Third (console) release, completing the baseSim migration up to baseSim v.3 (baseSim Standard and baseSim Professional modules). Also supporting the 'Customer Services' demonstration Model - completed
  • Fourth release incorporating the GUI elements to produce visual simulation Models (matching those created with Delphi). baseSim assemblies will now be installable in the GAC
  • Fifth release including Design-time support in Visual Studio

In order to keep our customers included in this development process we have created a baseSim .NET Evaluation package, which can be downloaded free of charge from the iBright Shop. The evaluation package contains the baseSim .NET assemblies and demonstration Models created in Visual Studio 2008 and equivalent Models created in Delphi 2007 (Win32) for comparison purposes.

31 May 2008:

baseSim has been ported to .NET Framework 3.5 (Visual Studio 2008).

The performance of baseSim .NET Models is equivalent to those compiled in Delphi 2007 (Win32), therefore giving baseSim Users a real alternative to Delphi and object pascal.

25 February 2008:

New release of baseSim - v.2.5.0.4. This is an evaluation version that is limited to the design environment of Borland Delphi (requires that Delphi is running) and will expire after 30 days.

This release has been compiled to work with the recent Delphi 2007 (Win32) version. Other than that no new features have been added.

Existing baseSim v.2.x users, please download from the Registered Users page and install this new version - your license key will be recognised automatically, however your license files will require reinstallation (see User Guide).

01 October 2007:

iBright announces the next phase in baseSim v.3 development...

Enhancements are to include optimised graphics rendering, logic scripting components and the ability to save a model mid-flow and open at a later date or share with colleagues.

01 March 2006:

baseSim has been ported to the .NET Framework. This enables a baseSim Model to be compiled for Win32 (Delphi.Win32 Personality) or .NET (Delphi.NET Personality) without modification (the exact same Model source code is used in both). Initially, this facility will be supported in the current Borland Developer Studio 2006 release.

Therefore, baseSim Models can now fully utilise the .NET Framework (as well as the exisiting Win32 infrastructure) and use third-party or in-house assemblies. This powerful flexibility is uniquely offered by Borland Developer Studio 2006 - something that even Microsoft's own Visual Studio cannot provide.

It is planned to release baseSim.NET along with the new baseSim v.3 Win32 version. This will happen by the end of Q2. If any of our existing or prospective Client's would like an early release then please get in touch.

22 January 2006:

White Paper published highlighting the set-up costs of developing Models with baseSim.

21 January 2006:

So what's the plan for baseSim in 2006?

Well we plan to release baseSim v.3. The focus of the next major release will be...

  • Better run-time support - enabling...
    • Models to be constructed at run-time
    • Models to be saved (structure and state) and re-opened at a later time (or perhaps shared with a colleague)
  • Better error reporting - enables easier debugging when building Models
  • Better and more comprehensive documentation
  • Extended and enhanced Simulation objects and features
  • The ability to compile a Model for Win32 or .NET (via VCL.NET) without modification
  • Automated updating of Models from v.2. to v.3

Users who purchase baseSim 2.5 in 2006 (leading up to the release of v.3) will be automatically upgraded to baseSim v.3 when it is released.

20 January 2006:

New release of baseSim - v.2.5.0.3. This is an evaluation version that is limited to the design environment of Borland Delphi (requires that Delphi is running) and will expire after 30 days.

Existing baseSim v.2.x users, please download from the Registered Users page and install this new version - your license key will be recognised automatically, however your license files will require reinstallation (see User Guide).

The notable new features of this new release are...

  • Support for Borland Developer Studio 2006 (Delphi and C++Builder Personalities)
  • Beta Release of the new baseSim Application User Interface - offering an integrated and streamlined Modelling experience.

05 January 2006:

baseSim has been updated to include Borland Developer Studio 2006 in its list of supported compilers. The new baseSim release (v.2.5) will be available shortly.

Borland Developer Studio 2006 (effectively Delphi 2006) is probably the best release of Delphi ever! It has some key advantages over previous releases...

  • It supports Win32 Pascal/C++, .NET C#/Delphi and VLC.NET and all in one IDE!
  • The underlying code and memory manager have been optimised - applications now load and run much quicker (this significantly boosts baseSim Model speed).
  • The IDE loads quickly and is very responsive to use - it is also very stable under load and when debugging.
  • An array of new developer productivity enhancements have been added, such as intelligent code completion and graphical component alignment indicators.
  • Any memory leaks can now be reported when the application shuts down.
  • Etc. (see the Delphi FAQ).

It is perhaps worth mentioning that Delphi 2006 offers a unique opportunity to develop Models and Applications that can be compiled for Win32 or .NET, with little or no modification (via Borland's VCL.NET technology) - this is a powerful flexibility that even Microsoft's own Visual Studio cannot provide.

All in all a wonderful release - expect great things from baseSim in 2006!

02 January 2006:

baseSim Run-time Licensing is now Free. This means our Clients can now build Applications using baseSim and distribute them 'Royalty Free' to an unlimited number of users.

The prices of licenses have been increased slightly (by approximately 10%) to accomodate this licensing change. This increase also incorporates the standard inflationary rise.

Please note that baseSim is still subject to iBright's Terms and Conditions.
